Introduction

Community Medicine is a speciality that deals with health of the people, the main objectives being assessment of the health needs of the population and developing strategies to meet the needs of quality health services (preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative) through empowerment process. Department also works towards discovery of new knowledge in public health. The department is engaged in teaching/training, service; and research in priority areas. It plans to establish “Centre for Rural Health” and “Urban Health Training Centre” to cater for the needs of disadvantaged groups and also to train the health manpower.
